The UMLS Metathesaurus is a large biomedical thesaurus that is organized by concept, or meaning. It links synonymous names from over 200 different source vocabularies. Which vocabularies are included?
The UMLS Metathesaurus includes names and codes from standard biomedical vocabularies including SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, MeSH, CPT, ICD-10-CM, MedDRA, Human Phenotype Ontology, and more. For a full list of UMLS vocabularies, see the UMLS Metathesaurus Vocabulary Documentation.
How do I get an account?
Anyone can sign up for a free UMLS Terminology Services account. By agreeing to the terms of the UMLS Metathesaurus License, you get access to UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, and the Value Set Authority Center.
